Abstract
Objectives : The aim of this study was to examine the Korean version of Delirium Rating Scale-Revised-98(K-DRS-98) whether it can be a useful instrument for diagnosis, severity, and clinical subtypes of delirium.

Methods : In this study, 92 patients were eligible to participate. These patients were consecutive referrals from January 2007 to August 2007, and met DSM-¥³ diagnostic criteria for delirium. K-DRS-98 was compared to the CAM for diagnostic consistency, to the K-DRS and the MMSE-K for correlation of severity, and to the Phenomenologic subtypes of delirium by Liptzin & Levkoff for the relationship between each items of K-DRS-98 and clinical subtypes of delirium.

Results : The diagnostic consistency was ¥ê=0.455. The total score of K-DRS-98 was correlated with the total score of K-DRS positively and with the total score of MMSE-K negatively. It was shown that the mixed subtype of delirium was anticipated when the total score of K-DRS-98 and the score of the language item was higher, the hyperactive subtype when the score of the motor retardation item was lower, and the hypoactive subtype when the score of the thought process abnormalities or motor agitation items was lower.

Conclusions : K -DRS-98 is a useful tool for identifying the subtypes of delirium as well as diagnosing delirium and assessing its severity.
